As you reach the end of the Siq, the first and greatest monument of Petra slowly comes into view. This is the famous Treasury monument “Al Khazneh”.
Petra, “The Rose City”, is anextraordinary and unique place, which was built by the Arab Nabateans more than 2000 years ago. The Nabateans carved their monumental tombs, palaces, temples and treasury from the desert’s natural rose-colored rocks and sandstones.

After lunch, travellers who prefer to return to the hotel will walk back along the same route. Those who wish to visit the Monastery can continue on to climb the 800 steps leading up to it. The Monastery has a similar design to the Treasury, but it is much larger (50 m high x 45m wide) and much less decorated. The facade is flat on the lower level and deeply carved on the upper level, with engaged columns and two half-pediments flanking a central urn (10m high).

As you venture deeper into the canyon, you’ll notice that sunlight barely reaches its floor. Little Petra once served as a key commercial hub and lodging area for honored guests — a supply post for camel caravans and an agricultural center with ancient vineyards and grape-pressing sites.
Depart for the Wadi Rum Nature Reserve, known as “The Valley of the Moon” — a truly unique desert landscape unlike anywhere else. Meet local Bedouins who will guide you through the area in their 4×4 pickup trucks (6 guests per vehicle) for a 4-hour desert tour, including a picnic lunch.
